The Women’s Newborn Intensive and Special Care (NISC) is one of the largest and busiest nurseries in Victoria, caring for about 1500 premature and sick babies each year. The NISC has an overall capacity for 61 babies, with 24 intensive care cots. The NISC provides high quality evidence based care through a model of care that is multidisciplinary, family centred and developmentally supportive. Research from the Women’s Neonatal Service underpins NISC care. Our Neonatal Service has an international reputation for excellence, having led the development of standards and guidelines in neonatal paediatrics and informed clinical practice around the world. Our research into improving respiratory, brain and long term health outcomes for babies is conducted collaboratively with other neonatal units nationally and internationally
Visiting Hours
Parents have 24 hour access. Relatives and friends may visit only with parents and a maximum of three (3) people at any time.
