Wills and Bequests

Many of us hope to make the world a better place by giving to an organisation that makes a real difference in peoples’ lives. Some people are unable to do this immediately, but by planning for the future and making a bequest in your Will you can make this hope a reality.

Please consider Miracle Babies Foundation when making your will. All legacy gifts – no matter what size – are immensely important to us and make a crucial contribution to our future work.

Leaving a legacy to Miracle Babies is wonderful way to make your support for Miracle Babies live on, well beyond your lifetime. You can do this by nominating Miracle Babies as the beneficiary or part-beneficiary to things such as:

  • Specific bequest; a gift of cash or an asset
  • Percentage Share; a percentage of the whole estate
  • Residual Bequest; how you want the remainder of your estate to be dealt with after other gifts have been given
  • Life Insurance; all or part of your insurance policy can be gifted to Miracle Babies Foundation

How do I leave a bequest?

Leaving a bequest to Miracle Babies Foundation involves adding a short paragraph (clause) to your will. The following clause is intended as a guide only for consideration when making your Will. It is important that you consult your solicitor to ensure that the wording is appropriate for the bequest you wish to make and for your particular circumstances.

"I bequeath to, Miracle Babies Foundation Limited, ABN 14 137 434 596 of 6/21 Governer Macquarie Drive Chipping Norton NSW 2170 www.miraclebabies.org.au for (its general purposes), (the residue of my estate), or (a specified sum), or (specified items), or (specified percentage) free of all duties, and the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer for the time being shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the executor(s)."

Can I add Miracle Babies Foundation to my existing will?

If you already have a will, it is important that you keep it up to date. Fortunately, making changes to an existing will is very straightforward.

If you want to add Miracle Babies to an existing will, your solicitor simply attaches a written instruction, called a codicil. This must be done by your solicitor - don't make changes yourself as you may inadvertently invalidate your will. The codicil will need the signature of two independent witnesses.

Do I have enough to leave a bequest?

A common misconception is that a bequest has to be an enormous sum of money. This is not the case.

Of course family and friends must come first in your thoughts. But any bequest left in a will, no matter how small or how large, is important to the charities you support.
