Babies Picnic 2007
Little Lochie Thomas was one of 150 family members and staff who turned out for the 2nd annual Miracle Babies Picnic. Held at Fairfield Farm the reunion is for babies that have graduated from Liverpool Public Hospital's Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
Lochie was born 14 months ago at 31+ 5 weeks weighing just 1942 grams. "It was just so wonderful to see so many miracle babies and children on the day and their miracle parents" said Lochie's mum Angie. "I draw so much hope, warmth and strength from all these beautiful little children and the amazing parents that have held their little hands every step of the way"
NICU families often form very strong bonds with staff members and other families, this was like a typical family reunion, just a little bigger than most. There were lots of hugs, lots of laughter and lots of beautiful children.
The picnic brings together so many parents. Our two children were premature, with our youngest Eli born weighing only 520 grams. We have a lifelong connection with Newborn Intensive Care now and attending the picnic is a great way of keeping in touch with the wonderful staff that cared for our children. It's also wonderful to reunite with other parents that we meet during our hospital stay, and to see how well their kids are doing.
The day was highlighted by face painting, a jumping castle, a pinatas and the wonderful farm animals and activities on offer at Fairfield City Farm and a visit from Dorothy the Dinosaur.
