Miracle Babies Picnic 08
Ronald McDonald and Dorothy the Dinosaur were the highlights of the recent Miracle Babies Annual Picnic held on Sunday, 19 October 2008 at Fairfield City Farm.
Over 350 guests attended the Farm for a fun family day to catch up and celebrate the lives of these miracle babies, born either premature or sick and requiring treatment by Liverpool Hospital's Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Local community support has been fantastic with the Picnic being sponsored by United Realty of Carnes Hill which enabled all the children to have pony and tractor rides. Local business Red and White Meat kindly donated sausages for the BBQ, Aroma Bakery at Chipping Norton donated bread and Woolworths at Carnes Hill donated bread rolls. Krispy Kreme donated doughnuts to add to the day's fun.
Cynthia Kennedy, mum of 32 week twins said, "I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for a wonderful day. I have almost five year old twin girls born at 32 weeks and they had such a ball. They particularly loved Dorothy the Dinosaur and of course the Krispy Kreme doughnuts at the end. I brought them both a little Miracle Babies teddy bear which they adore and took to bed. They call them their 'very special bears'."
"It was a lovely family outing and good to see families able to enjoy some time together. The families I spoke to were certainly enjoying the day." commented Julie Furtado, Social Worker of Liverpool Hospital's NICU.
"It was truly a great day out. To witness all these beautiful Miracle Babies enjoying the day is truly special. It is a very comforting feeling for a lot of the families to be able to celebrate their children with other families who have gone through the same life changing experience of having their baby cared for in a NICU. Miracle Babies is so proud to be able to share these experiences with so many wonderful families." Melinda Cruz, Miracle Babies President stated.
Thank you to all who attended the day and shared their Miracle Stories and to all those who donated to help make the day a very special occasion. A special thank you to Jan Anderson, Kelly Docherty for organizing the day and also Scott Docherty and Paul Campbell for cooking the wonderful BBQ lunch.
We look forward to seeing you again next year.
