Shoalhaven Families Shine

Thursday September 23rd saw Miracle Babies Shoalhaven NurtureGroup official start! We were most happy to have the pleasure of hosting nurses and counsellors, Australian Breast Feeding’s association members, community supporters, reporters as well as the Shoalhaven Mayor Paul Green and his wife and especially our precious miracle families. It was such a lovely display of support for such a vital group in this area.

Having Miracle Babies expand their NurtureGroups to the Shoalhaven is a wonderful asset to the region. NurtureGroup coordinators Cathy Barker and Becca Biggs are thrilled to be joining Miracle Babies after forming Kangaroo Care a meet and play for families of premature and unwell babies in March 2010.  In their words “Having Kangaroo Care was wonderful, but joining Miracle Babies has been fantastic. We all have the same goal of helping those who have had a premature or unwell baby and the more people working together on this goal, the more we can accomplish”. 

Since Kangaroo Care’s inception Maxine and her little girl Evie, born 6 weeks early, have been attending the group. When little Evie left hospital Maxine noticed something was missing. She loved having her little girl at home, but felt she needed the support from others who had shared similar experiences.

Maxine and Evie joined the Shoalhaven NurtureGroup, formerly known as Kangaroo Care and have been coming ever since! “Having a premature baby was a stressful experience and the support was great at the hospital, but I needed to meet mothers who had been in a similar situation” she said. Finding the Shoalhaven Nurture Group has allowed Maxine and Evie to be with others who understand their experiences.

The Shoalhaven NurtureGroup dates for the rest of the year will be at the Nowra Uniting Church in Nowra, NSW on Oct 21, November 4 & 18 and Dec 2nd from 10 am-12pm.
