Alana's Story, 25 Weeks

At 25+4 weeks pregnant, Miracle Mum, Luciana remembers the day she found out her “little warrior” Alana would arrive in the world early at 563g. Being told her baby had a 50/50 chance of survival broke her heart in pieces. After spending 95 days in the NICU, Luciana was able to take Alana home and credits the hospital journey for helping change her appreciation for life and love.

She shares this beautiful message for her daughter.

“I want to be there for you, to lift you up when you fall, to support you in what you love even though it isn’t something that I would encourage you to do, I will be there! This is my role as your mum. If you cry, I want to know why and what it will take to have your smile back again. I want to also remind you it’s ok to cry, it’s not a weakness, it’s just you showing a little bit of your soul.

I want to be there to always remind you it’s ok to make mistakes - we will pass on through life making a lot of them. The important thing is to recognise your own mistakes and then get up, be sorry and try again & again & again. That is the only way you will become a better person. Never give up on those you love, never!

Completely erase from your vocabulary the phrase: “It’s too late”.

It is never too late. As long as you breathe it is never too late! If you love, say it out and loud. Show it through your actions. Sometimes we pass by people we love and because life is too busy, too crazy, or we’ve got too many problems, we forget to act. Always act showing your love darling, I will be the one who will always remind you that actions + words = love!

If you see yourself in moments of trial, hang in there and never ever give up. Go away for a while, breathe the cool air, make a prayer, calm your heart down and don’t forget to forgive too. You don’t go anywhere without forgiveness, that is the key of freedom! The key to love.

Believe in the “turning point” when things don’t go as you expect; try one more time, just never give up! And believe everything changes, be positive and fight for what you always dreamed of. There is no “if”. What if I had tried again? I will be the one to encourage you not to put your head in the pillow with that question. Just run and try again! And if you do get hurt, I want to be there to hug you tight and watch you become a better person.

I want to be there to remind you that nobody can change you as a person but someone can be the reason you change yourself one day.

You have shown me, since you were born, that nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible, and I do believe it too; you have shown me! You teach me it every single day.

Last but not least, remember this word belongs not only to you, but to everybody. Don’t let the selfish behaviour of others destroy your inner peace and if you live your life as if everything is about you, you will be left with just that, only you.

If for some reason we grow apart one day, I want you to know that my heart is where ever you are. Every day with you is the best day of my life!

Love Mommy”
