Aleida's Story, 23 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Shelby shares Aleida's story.

"Aleida was my second pregnancy; my first baby was born at full term. I had a rough second pregnancy. With this baby my feet started swelling at 9 weeks and at 14 weeks I started spotting and I started hemorrhaging at 19 weeks. I went to many local hospitals for ultrasounds to see why I was bleeding but everything was “fine”.

I went to a specialist at 22 weeks for a 2nd trimester ultrasound and it was then I found out my placenta had ripped away from my uterus and the baby had lost amniotic fluid. I was told I had to stay in the hospital until she was born. Her due date was February 7th 2018 but I woke up covered in blood at 6am on Friday October the 13th 2017. I was 4 cm dialated already. I was so scared and even more scared because of the day she was being born on ( Friday the 13th baby).

I delivered her around 5pm but I didn't know if my baby was a boy or a girl. I didn’t hear my baby cry and they didn’t put her on my chest like they would a normal baby - I was so scared. I had to wait two hours to see what my baby looked like.

The day after I had my daughter I broke my wrist in two places trying to get ready to go see my baby. Two weeks after she was born she gave everyone a scare, the doctors thought she wouldn’t make it because her lung collapsed and they didn’t know why. They brought in the “big” ventilators and she seemed to be stabilised. I think that was the first time I actually really prayed. My prayers were answered though and she came home February 15th 2018. She is now 3 years old and she’s so smart and strong. Her name is Aleida Sue."
