Candace's Story, 34 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Shianne shares Candace's story.

"I was admitted into hospital at 33+5 weeks due to pre-eclapsmia. I had very high blood pressure and I was having very bad headaches and dizziness. They monitored my blood pressure every two hours or so.

At 34 weeks, still in the hospital, I had a heap of blood tests done. The medical staff came back in and told me they needed to get my daughter out of me as soon as they could because my kidney functioning was only 80% of what it should have been.

On the 21st of April 2020 at 8:10am in the morning, my daughter Candace was born. I was kept in the hospital for a couple of days after she was born so they could keep a close eye on my blood pressure. After I was discharged, myself and my partner went back and forth to the hospital to check up on our little girl - we hid tears behind our smiles. We would go sanitise our hands and check in, but it was so hard for us to walk into the hospital; but we did it for our little girl - we stayed strong for her.

Candace has made me a better mum, a better partner, a better person and a better friend. Candace has made me a much stronger person - she is my world and my baby girl and that's not about to change for anyone. I love her so much."
