Elliott's Story, 34 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Kelsey shares Elliott's story

"Born at 34+2 weeks due to placental abruption and early rupture of membranes, Elliott came into the world at 2.14kgs.

At 34 hours old, Elliott had a bowel perforation due to an anorectal malformation affecting 1 in every 5000 births.
Flown to the Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital, Elliot was admitted to the NICU for emergency surgery.

Elliott was diagnosed with an imperforate anus and had meconium soiling his entire diaphragm. Elliott’s NICU stay was a month-long, with Mum and Dad learning how to care for his stoma whilst he recovered.

Elliott has had another surgery to create his anus two weeks ago and is doing fantastic. His next surgery will be reversal of his stoma sometime at the beginning of 2022 when his anus is healed and his bowels look 100%! This little trouper pulled through a horrible entrance into this beautiful world however has done amazing and continues to thrive each and everyday!

Elliott was also diagnosed with hip dysplasia and will be undergoing surgery to fix his hip after his stoma is put away.

Miracle Babies Foundation provided care packages and support for us during this difficult time. Thank you so much”.
