James' Story, 34 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Rachel shares James' story.

"I was booked in for an elective c-section at 38+4 weeks, however at 34 weeks I woke up at 5:30am and said to my husband I think my waters have broken. He laughed and said I probably peed myself, but we called the hospital and went in anyway. My waters had broken and resealed. My OB was hoping to keep our little man in until 35 weeks however, by 7pm that night my waters had started leaking again and we had to proceed with the c-section. Our first child James was born at 9pm and taken to the NICU.

Over the next few days we learnt about CPAP, jaundice, heart issues, tube feeding and more. I was lucky enough to stay in hospital with our boy for just over a week until I had to leave him.

The next few weeks we visited our boy in hospital watching him go from strength to strength. Due to COVID-19 no one could visit him besides myself and my husband.

It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through, and our boy was only in the NICU for about 3 weeks. The strength and support of the fellow NICU parents, nurses and midwives was beyond anything we could have imagined.

We are incredibly blessed to have our boy happy and healthy, now a massive 7.5kg at 4 months (actual) old!"
