Some premature birth complications are short term and resolve within time. Others are long term or permanent. Typically, complications of prematurity vary, but the earlier your baby is born the higher the risk of complications.
School age children can have long term intellectual and developmental disabilities and problems with their lungs, eyes and other organs. Some long-term conditions include Cerebral Palsy, Necrotizing Enterocolitis, Retinopathy of Prematurity and gut, stomach and heart issues.
Finding and treating health problems as early as possible can help children lead longer healthier lives. Access to the right advice prior to them starting school will ensure you will have the best school choice in relation to support staff and modifications to buildings and playgrounds. Also having specialised education programs in place to help your child develop the skills they need at school.
