Chelsey's Story, 27 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Kirsty was living in a small mining town when she started to have severe pains 30 minutes into a long drive. A few hours later she was being rushed to hospital onboard a rescue helicopter. She shares the story of baby Chelsey's arrival.

"Our day started like any other... I’d had a terrible night sleep and tossed and turned most of the night. My husband left for work at 5.30am and I headed off to work around 7pm. We lived in a small mining town and I needed to travel three hours to Mackay to pick up computers for work. I had just left and was about 30min out of town and these incredible pains started. This was our first child so I had no idea what was happening. For some reason I turned around and went straight to the hospital.

I arrived at the hospital at about 10am and by 3pm the RACQ Rescue Helicopter was called to take me to Mackay. We arrived in Mackay at 4:45pm and at 4:53pm our little miracle was born at 27+3 weeks spontaneously.

We were so so lucky with Chelsey’s NICU and SCU journey in Townsville and Mackay. She was so strong and determined; 79 days later we were off home! Chelsey will be 4 this year and has started Kindy.

We will forever be grateful for all that the Doctors and Nurses did for our baby girl."
