International Volunteer Day: Together We Can Through Volunteering

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2020

Saturday, December 5 is International Volunteer Day. A day to recognise the invaluable contribution volunteers make to organisations all around the world. This year’s theme is: Together We Can Through Volunteering.

After an immensely challenging and difficult year, the difference volunteers make to the community is abundantly clear. With the message Together We Can Through Volunteering, we want to encourage everyone to make International Volunteer Day this year a moment to thank volunteers and celebrate their efforts despite all the challenges.

In Australian 3 in 10 people are volunteers. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, in 2014, 31 per cent of Australians aged 15 and over participated in voluntary work. Each year, Australian volunteers contribute an estimated 743 million hours to the community, with an estimated value of voluntary work in not-for-profit organisations of $17 billion (ABS 2015).

Miracle Babies Foundation thrives off the support of its wonderful volunteers, who are the lifeblood of our organisation. Without our volunteers we would not be able to continue our work across Australia.

Our volunteers are an integral part of our organisation and share one common goal; a passion for improving the lives of premature and sick newborns, and their families.

Meet Jenny, Miracle Babies Head Office Volunteer

Jenny is one of our superstar Head Office volunteers who helps pack vital resources sent to our Miracle families in NICU/ SCN. Jenny bring loads of energy and love to our office and we are so lucky to have her as part of our Miracle Team! We would be lost without you Jenny.

"I have two amazing daughters, one very handsome grandson and gorgeous twin granddaughters who were born at 35 weeks. Ava weighed 2kg and Layla was 1.9kg. I must admit the first year of the twin’s life was a blur, but we got through it. My first encounter with Miracle Babies was when the girls were born, and later when my son-in-law David Wall, through motor racing, became an Ambassador.
When my daughter told me Miracle Babies needed volunteers I jumped at the opportunity as I had been looking for something worthwhile to do since I retired. I have met many wonderful people, and it’s been great to feel helpful again!" shared Jenny.

On behalf of our team, families, and hospitals, thank you to the wonderful volunteers who make our work possible!

For those interested in volunteering with Miracle Babies Foundation, we have created a special Facebook Group. If you are able to support our Foundation via Volunteering at events, programs and services, then follow along for regular updates and opportunities, please follow our Volunteering at Miracle Babies page to stay in the loop.

Happy International Volunteer Day!
