Nate's Story, 28 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Kristy shares how proud she is of her strong bub Nate.

"I went into premature labour on the Friday (a week before Christmas). The labour was stopped, however, I suffered a pulmonary embolism and Nate had to be delivered via emergency Caesarean on the Monday.

I remained in Intensive Care and birthing suite for two days post birth. Because of my own health I didn't get to meet Nate for two days. My husband spent time with him and showed me photos. Nate was in the NICU for a total of 58 days.

At birth he weighed 1120gms. He didn't suffer any setbacks and his fighting spirit shone through the entire time. Nate was on CPAP for most of his stay and moved onto oxygen three weeks prior to discharge. He was discharged without breathing support.

Nate has the best sense of humour. He has met all his milestones and doesn't do things mildly. His first steps were a couple of steps...he stopped and then continued to walk about 5 metres unaided."
