Navaeh's Story, 24 Weeks

Miracle Mum, Shania shares her daughter Navaeh's story.

"I was pregnant with fraternal twins at a young age. My waters broke when I was 24+2 days gestation. The hospital couldn't do anything to stop the labor. I was already fully dialated and had to have an emergency cesarean. They ended up calling flight for life and delivering my daughters.

They were born weighing 524g and 538g at birth. They were transferred immediately by ambulance to a hospital that had the equipment to take care of premature babies. My daughters were really sick. They told me it was going to be a roller coaster.

One of my daughters ended up dying two days after birth from internal bleeding in her lungs. My other daughter fought from day one. She ended up having PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) ligation, Severe NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis), Resection of the bowel, x2 ROP (Retinopathy of prematurity) Lasor Eye Surgery, in the first six months of her life.

She was finally discharged after a long 6 months in the NICU. Navaeh ended up having to have a few more surgeries in regards to her stomach issues. However, she has been doing therapy since six months old.

She turned nine in October. She is my miracle baby. If she can go through all those things and fight for her life as an innocent baby, I know I can do so much more.

I love you Navaeh Marie."
