Erica’s journey into motherhood began in 2020 with the extremely premature birth of her son who was born at 26 weeks weighing 600 grams giving her the unique experience of watching her child develop outside the womb.
The world outside the NICU was facing the global pandemic meaning Erica and her husband were unable to be with their son together and with no visitors allowed and lockdowns in place, it was a lonely road.
In the midst of the isolation and trauma, Erica read Miracle Babies stories about others who had journeyed similar paths before her which helped her feel less alone. She found hope in connecting with other mothers in the NICU and each day, between the lines of grief, Erica found joy in motherhood.
Sitting with others in their pain is something Erica is not afraid of. Sometimes, that is all we need, just someone to listen and allow us to process the journey in our own way and in our own time. Being able to use her own birth trauma as a way to connect and help others is one of the greatest privileges of Erica’s life.
