Mental Health Self-Assessment for Neonatal parents

Depression, anxiety and stress scale

As a parent led organisation from lived experience we know having a premature or sick baby can be traumatic, emotional, overwhelming, stressful and more – through the critical time in a neonatal unit, the transition to home and beyond. It is very important for parents to be mindful of their mental health as there is an increased risk for parents of extremely preterm and critically ill babies.

We encourage all neonatal parents to take this confidential, anonymous self-assessment to help you identify if you are struggling with anxiety, stress and/or depression now, and monitor these aspects of your wellbeing throughout the critical time in hospital and after discharge.

Being aware of mental health symptoms and reaching out for help is so important to ensure you are best placed to meet the demands that come with having a premature or critically ill baby.

To support you, we have partnered with COPE to bring you a self-check tool to help you to identify and be aware of any mental health concerns with a Depression, Anxiety and Stress scale in Neonatal Parents. On completion of the tool, you will receive an instant, tailored report to guide you to quality information and support.

COPE is Australia’s peak body in pre and postnatal mental health. COPE supports hopeful, expectant and new parents through the many unexpected challenges that can arise on the journey to becoming a parent. Through our programs we are committed to ensuring that parents and carers feel informed, supported and directed to timely and effective information, support and treatment.
