Nevaeh, 25 weeks

Miracle mum Leanne shares Nevaeh's story:

My daughter Nevaeh was born at 25/5 weeks, weighing 910gms at King Edward Memorial Hospital. I had preeclampsia and H.E.L.L.P syndrome. I only found out I was pregnant at 24 weeks! I was at Perth Radiology having an ultrasound done on my renal arteries. It wasn't till then that the nurse said, “Oh, so we are aware that you're pregnant?!!”... I was like, “WHAT! What do you mean! How could I not know!”.. Definitely a big shock. I was still fitting into my size 8 jeans, just laying down to do my zip up! So wasn't showing for 6mths!! It wasn't until I had gone to the doctors as I had really bad pain under my rib cage, everyone said it was indigestion!

That day at the doctors, I felt like I was going to pass out. It was a 1.5hr wait for the doctor, so I was going to leave, until the doctor's door opened and the patient and doctor exited the room. I took the opportunity to go and sit in his room to wait. He came back, I said, “I'm sorry to push in, but I'm the girl who you seen 2 weeks ago that found out she is 6mths pregnant, I feel like I'm gonna faint.” He got me a glass of water, took my blood pressure, it was 230/210! Rang hospital, said I needed to come for a test. I cried as it was Friday and didn't want to be stuck in hospital all weekend. I left the doctor's and made my way to KEMH and waited to be seen too.

By a few hours later, I had about 10 docs in the room fussing over me, telling me how sick I was and monitoring the baby's heartbeat. Then I'm told I needed to give birth to the baby. I said, “How? I've only just found out I'm pregnant”. First the doctor said 48hrs, then it was 24hrs, and an hour later it was, nope you're going in now to have an emergency Caesar. We have to do this to save your life. I asked, “What about the baby?” They said it's a not so good chance, but if she survives well that's great, but we need to save your life or none of you will survive, due to preeclampsia and H.E.L.L.P syndrome.

My baby was born. I took nearly 6 weeks to name her, I wasn't rushing that considering she was in such a hurry to arrive. We called her NEVAEH.

Nevaeh is now 7 and perfectly healthy, no setbacks at all. She always amazed King Edward midwives with amazing stuff she seemed to do. Definitely an “old soul”, she has been here before, hence her name “Nevaeh” (heaven spelt backwards). Nevaeh is a gift from heaven for sure.
