QV Baby – for reassurance, delicate care and support in hospital and well beyond

Premature babies are not just small babies, their organs are underdeveloped and their skin is extremely fragile. Babies may be born as early as 22 weeks and will spend months in specialised care. Of the 48,000 babies admitted to a neonatal unit every year, up to 27,000 of these babies are premature. Sadly, up to 1,000 of these babies will lose their fight for life.

For parents with a baby in specialised care, the experience can be terrifying and the impacts can last a lifetime with these babies at increased risk of disabilities, developmental and behavioural challenges, while parents are more likely to experience anxiety, postnatal depression and PTSD.

Miracle Babies Foundation Australia’s leading charity supporting the entire journey of a family with a baby born requiring specialised care at birth and with no regular government funding toward our programs, our partners play a vital role in ensuring that this support will continue for years to come.

Miracle Babies is proud to partner with QV Baby as we strive to ensure a happy and thriving future for all families. The partnership provides funding toward education and important resources for families with a baby in special care. Close to 6,000 products were distributed to families across Australia throughout their baby’s hospital stay. These resources provide 24/7 access to emotional support, increase confidence and improve coping through parent-led information that guides them through every stage of their baby’s journey.

The partnership also contributes to ongoing support well beyond the hospital doors through after-discharge support, including Miracle Babies specialised play and support groups (NurtureGroups).

Parents can meet others who have been through a similar experience, make lifelong friends and gain ongoing support from Miracle Babies Peer Support Workers. While babies who have spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit can grow and develop in their own time, socialise and celebrate milestones together, surrounded by other children who may face a similar journey. 

These groups are an important support service, much needed for families who feel like they have nowhere to turn, because this journey can be like no other, it helps to find a place that is there just for you, your child and will continue to be there for years to come.

The groups allow peer learning, connection with others facing ongoing challenges and specialised guidance in the critical early years.
