I’ve never shared much about our journey because it was the hardest experience of my life. For a long time it was simply too painful to relive. Now that Calli is thriving, smiling and lighting up every room she enters, I finally feel ready.
Calli was born 10 weeks early, weighing just 780g. We nearly lost her and there were moments where I nearly lost my life too. The months that followed were spent in the NICU. Calli needed breathing support, a blood transfusion, a humidity crib, countless procedures, a double hernia surgery and a feeding tube for seven months. Every day was filled with fear but the moments I got to hold her for skin to skin and do her cares became my whole world.
We were incredibly lucky to have the most amazing NICU staff, our family, friends and Miracle Babies Foundation.
