Sabrina Braber

Consumer Representative

Sabrina’s daughter was an unexpected Christmas present born at 30 weeks gestation via emergency caesarean due to intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and abnormal doppler readings. Maia weighed just 1kg and required CPAP and high flow respiratory support in the NICU. Her 2 month NICU journey included treatment for jaundice, suspected sepsis, intraventricular haemorrhage, and the gradual establishment of enteral feeds.

The experience of having a premature baby and a lengthy stay in NICU completely changed Sabrina’s perspective on life in general. She believes they would not have had the positive outcomes with Maia if it was not for the highest quality care and support provided by the doctors and nurses in both the Perinatal Unit and NICU at Mercy Hospital. As a Consumer Representative, Sabrina is now able to give back.

In addition to being a mum, Sabrina is a qualified lawyer, working in the pharmaceutical industry with a strong focus on research and development. Sabrina’s professional and personal experiences provide her with the unique understanding of the importance which the patient voice provides to clinical trials and research activities. Sabrina wants to use her platform within Miracle Babies to provide the patient voice for other families who are navigating similar journeys and facilitate improved care and support currently provided to other NICU families.
