NurtureProgram Resources
While in the Neonatal unit, please be aware of the Butterfly logo and its meaning. The purple Butterfly represents a baby that was part of a multiple pregnancy, but sadly not all babies survived and parents have chosen that they wish to make others aware.
These Butterfly Stickers are for families in the Neonatal unit to place on their humidicrib.
Hospitals can order these Butterfly Stickers through our resource order form.
Here are a few guidelines on how to further support a family who has lost one or more of their multiple children in a pregnancy:
Acknowledge the bereavement
Parents usually welcome the opportunity to discuss the loss of the twin or multiple baby who has died.
Provide emotional support
Parents really value the empathy they receive from staff when they lose one of their multiples, including the NurtureLine family support helpline in addition to support that is available from the neonatal team.
Provide continuity
Parents appreciate continuity of care where possible and seeing familiar faces.
Offer memory making
Parents find comfort in keepsakes of all their babies. Miracle Babies provides memory boxes free of charge in neonatal units.
Prepare parents for discharge from hospital
Parents can find the discharge from hospital of their surviving baby difficult.
